Scio Township is considering a plan that would eliminate or reduce service for the number 30 bus route on Jackson Ave., west of Wagner. This means the AAATA number 30 bus stop at Meijer would be eliminated and there would be no AAATA bus service between Wagner Rd. and the Meijer shopping center at Jackson Rd and Zeeb Rd..
Also, the plan may reduce WAVE bus service in the area. Further limiting access for those who depend on public transportation in Scio Township.
The Multimodal Transit Committee (MTC) may look at other options for transportation from Jackson and Wagner roads to Meijer, although these services may be limited compared to the current AAATA 30 bus and WAVE bus.
This impacts thousands of commuters –– whether they are residents, customers, patients, or employees. It would make it harder for people to access health care, shop, work, and otherwise live in this part of the Ann Arbor area, and it would limit our access to the rest of the area in a significant way.
Update April 30 2026
During its meeting April 30, 2026 the MTC finalized their recommendation to the Scio Township Board of Trustees to be presented as agenda item # 0.3 at the Trustees meeting on May 12, 2026.
Here is the recommendation from the MTC, taken from the following document, Recommendation from the Multimodal Transportation Committee to the Board of Trustees.pdf
""
For the two above-mentioned reasons the Multimodal Transportation Committee recommends to the Board of Trustees the following:
#1) That the Board of Trustees approves an agenda item at the Board of Trustees meeting
on May 12th or May 26th to inform AAATA/WAVE of the Board of Trustees interest of extending
the Purchase of Service Agreement for AAATA/WAVE fiscal year of 10/01/2026 to
09/30/2027 to give additional time for AAATA to review cost of service to Scio Township.
This will enable the MTC to develop a transit plan to meet the needs of Scio Township.
#2) That the Board of Trustees continues its support of public transit in Scio Township and
reviews long term funding opportunities including but not limited to county funding, grants,
fund balance, PUD public benefits and other legally permissible funding sources.
#3) That the Board of Trustees consider an increase of the transportation millage in 2028.

Update April 21 2026
During its meeting April 21, 2026 the MTC heard from WAVE and AAATA representatives about information they have gathered since the previous meeting of the MTC. Both the WAVE and AAATA are continueing to gather more information for the MTC.
The MTC passed a motion during the meeting that they would reccommend to the Scio Twonship Board of Trustees that the township continue current transportation services through September 30, 2027 while they continue to investigate and evaluate options that would meet the current transportation budget.
Update April 16, 2026
A Special Meeting of the Scio Township Board of Trustees and the Planning Commission has been scheduled for Monday April 20, 2026 at 6:00pm for the purpose of outlining priorities for the Master Plan. This is a great opportunity for members of the community to speak up and let Scio Township officials know that public transportation should be a priority in the Master Plan as we work to save the AAATA # 30 bus stop at Meijer on Jackson Road. Speak in person at the township hall or over Zoom by clicking the following link https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89398524300.
Updates April 14, 2026
The Scio Township Multimodal Meeting (MTC) scheduled for April 9, 2026 was cancelled due to another meeting being rescheduled that they were waiting on information from. The meeting is rescheduled for April 21, 2026 at 9:00 AM. See Below for Details.
Currently the MTC is working with WAVE and AAATA to obtain some additional information.
Scio Township Trustee and Treasurer Ryan Yaple is trying to recapture Scio Township DDA funds that are being sent to the county, earmarking an amount for transportation so it can all stay the same.
The Michigan Department of Transportation has rescheduled their meeting to provide feedback to 04/16/2026.
The Scio Township Board of Trustees has a meeting on Tuesday April 14 at 6:00 pm. Agenda item K.7, Resolution to Request Appropriation and Expenditure of DDA Returned Funds- Transit from Washtenaw County in the amount of $300,000 to cover transit expenses for this new fiscal year. Reach out to them at townshipboard@sciotownshipmi.gov and ask them to approve this item. Speak in person or via zoom at https://sciotownshipmi-gov.zoom.us/j/89398524300
The Scio Township Board of Trustees voted to list for sale a small parcel of land, 6540 Jackson Road, and have the net proceeds be placed in the transit fund. Click here for more details.
The Scio Township Board of Trustees approved item K.7 to allow Trustee Ryan Yaple to reach out to the Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners and request a return of $300,000 to fund the short fall of the transit budget for the new fiscal year.
We can help support Trustee Ryan Yaple's efforts to recapture some funds from the disbanded township DDA.
The Scio Township Board of Trustees voted to dissolve the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) on August 12, 2025. The board approved Ordinance 2025-08 (also referenced as 2025-06) to repeal the ordinance that created the DDA, citing that its purpose — primarily infrastructure improvements along Jackson Road—had been met.
According to Michigan law when a DDA is disbanded the funds, in this case substantial, over 1 million, are returned to the governing taxing authority which is Washtenaw County. This occurred this past month at the end of Scio Township's fiscal year.
Please help Ryan with his efforts by emailing or calling our local county commissioner.
Tell him you are a resident of Scio Township, how these funds would help to keep the AAATA bus stop at Meijer on Jackson Road, and how having the bus stop move to Jackson and Wagner roads would affect you.
We are in district one and our Washtenaw County Commissioner is Jason Maciejewski.
